SA not required for Exchange 2010 to move between hosts

I recently received a call from a VAR where it was mentioned that you require SA / Software Assurance on Exchange server and CALs when it is run in a virtual environment.

It was stated this was just because it was virtual, but this is not the case.

There are however requirements when it comes to using features that move server workloads tween physical hosts.

Whilst license mobility between hosts requires SA for server and CALs if running Exchange 2013 (unless you license all physical hosts with the required number of server licenses, which I happen to do for Exchange 2010), this is not true for Exchange 2010 running on a virtual environment on a private (not hosted by 3rd party) environment, as illustrated in the following blog post.
